Celebration is the fifth principle of the Transformational Coaching Model™. It is the stage where the coachee takes the time to savor their big and small successes.
Celebration can be as simple as taking a few minutes to reflect on accomplishments or as elaborate as throwing a party. Celebration recognizes the hard work and dedication that went into achieving a goal.
Celebrating has several benefits such as improved motivation, increased self-esteem, and enhanced resilience. Motivation, self-esteem, and resilience play a pivotal role in driving towards goals. When genuine, these factors inspire people to take action, overcome challenges, and persist in the face of setbacks.
As a coach, you can play an important role in helping your clients celebrate their successes. Here are a few things you can do:
Encourage clients to track their progress to recognize their successes.
Help clients to identify each milestone and celebrate each one as it is achieved.
Provide positive feedback helping clients to be a finisher.
Here is a question you can ask your clients to help them celebrate their successes and reflect on their progress:
What would you like to be able to share with me at our next meeting about your action step?
This open-ended question allows the client to share whatever is most important to them. It also encourages them to think about their next steps and how they can be accountable to continue progressing towards their goals.
Achieving goals is transactional. Celebrating then leads to transformation, as it gives time for the person being coached to acknowledge their successes, enjoy the satisfaction finishing brings, and begin to recognize the transformation that has taken place.
Celebration is an important part of the coaching process. It can help clients to stay determined and motivated toward the finish line.
When was the last time you paused to celebrate an accomplishment?
